Princess Cruises annually offers a broad selection of Holy Land cruises aboard its mid-sized ships. In 2012, the Pacific Princess will be sailing to the Holy Land. Catering to just 694 guests, with a crew of 372, the Pacific Princess offers one of the most intimate and pampered experiences aboard the Princess fleet. Perfect for guests who shy away from the larger cruise ships, the Pacific Princess still offers the amenities for which Princess is known, and for that reason appeals to multi-generations.
This April Holy Land cruise begins in Venice. Known for its intricate canals and rich history, Venice offers a wealth of sites and activities to enjoy. Sail on a famous gondola; visit St. Marks Square; and tour the Murano Glass factory. You'll have plenty of time because your ship does not depart until 11 p.m. From Venice, your next port of call is Ravenna, Italy. Ravenna is connected to the Adriatic Sea by a canal, and is home to eight Christian monuments inscribed on the World Heritage list. These include the Baptistry of Neon, the most ancient site in Ravenna and erected at the end of the 4th Century or early 5th Century; Mausoleum of Galla Placidia; Arian Baptistry; Archiepiscopal Chapel; Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo; Mausoleum of Theodoric; Basilica of San Vitale; and Basilica of Sant'Apollinare in Classe.
After spending a full day in Ravenna, you'll sail next to Dubrovnik, Croatia. Dubrovnik offers a real treat. Itself listed among UNESCO's World Heritage Sites and surrounded by the beautiful turquoise waters of the Adriatic Sea, Dubrovnik is a city wall-in by white Marble. An intricate pattern of narrow streets are lined with shops and restaurants. Here, be sure to walk the top perimeter of the wall offering stunning views of the sea below.
Your next two stops will be in Israel, Nazareth/Galilee and Ashdod. Some of the most significant historical and religious sites are here: Nazareth, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Holy Sepulcher, Mount of Beatitudes, Capernaum, and many others. You can also visit Israel's capital, Tel Aviv. We can arrange private excursions here custom tailored to what you most want to see. With two full days in Israel, you'll have the time to explore many important sites here.
Next, you'll cruise to Egypt where you'll spend two full days, one day each in Port Said and Alexandria. From these ports, you'll have the opportunity to visit the great Pyramids of Giza; the famous Egyptian Museum of Antiquities housing the largest collection of Egyptian artifacts in the world; Sakkara, the oldest ancient Egyptian cemetery; and the temple of the mysterious Sphinx. If you like, we can arrange a customized tour of Egypt that includes two full days and an overnight stay at the InterContinental Hotel in Cairo.
You'll next cruise to Kusadasi, gateway to the ancient city of Ephesus. Ephesus is of the most magnificent and well preserved ancient sites in the world. Ephesus serves as the final resting place of the Virgin Mary. The Apostle Paul lived here and the Gospel of John may have been written here. Ephesus includes many significant historical and religious sites. One, the Temple of Artemis, is among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Also here, among many other well-preserved ancient ruins, is the Theater. With a capacity of 44,000, it is believed to be the largest outdoor theater in the ancient world. We can arrange a private all-day tour to Ephesus, complete with knowledgeable private guide.
Your Holy Land cruise concludes in Piraeus, port city for the ancient city of Athens. If you choose, we can arrange an overnight hotel stay in Athens, giving you plenty of time to explore the great historical sites of Athens.
