About this Cruise:

This extraordinary luxury South America cruise is aboard the elegantly-appointed, mid-sized Oceania Regatta.  The South America cruise begins with an overnight in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the most visited city in the South Hemisphere.  After arriving and depositing your luggage in your stateroom, you'll have the opportunity over  the span of two day to fully experience this vibrant city, teaming with nightlife, world-famous beaches, fabulous city sites, and lots of gourmet restaurants to tempt your palate.

After not even departing Rio until 8 p.m. on the 2nd day of our South America cruise, we will sail overnight to our next port of call:  Buzios.  Only 105 miles from Rio, Buzios has an interesting and sorted history.  European pirates and slave traders originally settled Buzios, but today it is stunningly scenic fishing village rated by many among the 10 most beautiful places in the world!  We'll have a full day to explore and absorb it's natural beauty.

Next up on our South America cruise is Ilha Grande.  If you were ever stranded somewhere at sea, this is where you'd hope you'd be.  Ilha Grande is an island off the coast of Rio that offers idyllic beaches (with Vogue Magazine having voted one of its beaches among the 10 most beautiful in the world), natural hiking, and even an art gallery.  After a full day here, we'll continue our South America cruise to our next port:  Parati.  Parati is another gorgeous town, surrounded by water and sandy beaches on one side, and lush green mountains on the other.  Parati (also spelled Paraty) is a great historic center, complete with cobblestone streets.

Our South America cruise next spends a full day in Santos.  Home to South America's largest port, this large city offers loads to do.  Have you ever visited a coffee museum?  Where better to do that than here in Brazil?  You also will want to visit Monte Serrat, the highest peak in the city offering 360 degree views.

After living the city streets of Santos, we'll then sail to Porto Belo, and quaint village famous for its beaches and a popular vacation spot for Brazilians.  This tropical island will welcome you with its year-round tropical temperatures, crystal clear waters, and simply beautiful scenery.  You can people watch here, pick up some authentic Brazilian souvenirs, or simply soak up the sun.

Our next day on our South America cruise will be our first day at sea.  It is an opportunity to relax, regroup, enjoy all that the Oceania Regatta has to offer, and get ready for several days of exploration.

After our day at sea, our South America cruise next arrives into Rio Grande; no, not the river, but rather the southernmost state in Brazil.  Boasting perhaps the longest beach in the world at 250 km, Rio Grande reflects a unique culture, beautiful mountains, and low lands near the water.

Punta del Este is our first stop in Uruguay on our South America cruise.  A resort town for the rich and famous from Buenos Aires, Punta del Este oozes glamour and lots of contrasts, from a mixture of colonial architecture to modern buildings, coupled with scenic broad sandy beaches and glitzy resorts.

After our full ay in Punta del Este, we'll sail next to Montevideo, our next-to-last port of call.  Montevideo is Uruguay's capital.  As such, it is vibrant, with rich cultural offerings and plenty to do.

Our South America cruise concludes with an overnight in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Known as the Paris of South America, Buenos Aires shows its strong European influences in both its architecture and its culture.  There is loads to do in Buenos Aires:  from horseback riding to museum hoping to a bonanza of tempting tastes.
